14th January | By UNMAP Adventure
The Kite Festival is one of the most popular events in Jaipur, the lively Pink City of Rajasthan. It takes place on January 14th during Makar Sankranti and is all about kite flying. The festival brings together people of all ages, from young children to the elderly, creating an atmosphere full of joy, excitement, and togetherness.
On Kite Festival day, the skies of Jaipur fill with vibrant colors as countless kites fly high above the city. It feels like the sky itself becomes a canvas for imagination and creativity. Throughout the day, people gather on rooftops to fly kites, playfully competing to outfly each other and cut each other’s strings. The air fills with cheers and laughter whenever someone successfully cuts a kite. Families also enjoy traditional food, music, and celebrations from their terraces across the city.
To make it even more special, the Government of Rajasthan hosts a major Kite Festival every five years at the Jaipur Polo Ground. This three-day event draws large crowds of participants and spectators. Skilled kite flyers display their talent with kites that can reach lengths of up to 1.5 kilometers. These artistic kites often carry social messages, cartoons, and creative themes. Visitors can also join kite-flying competitions held at various spots throughout Jaipur, making the festival an unforgettable cultural experience.
