Himachal Bicycling Adventure Mandi – Shimla Crossing Jalori Pass

You will arrive at Delhi by flight. A representative from KVT will be waiting for you at the airport. They will help you get to the vehicle. Then the KVT representative will take you to your hotel. In the afternoon you will start seeing the sights of Delhi. You will go to Old Delhi. Visit the Jama Masjid which is the largest mosque in Old Delhi and it was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. After that you will go on a fun cycle rickshaw ride through the busy streets and narrow lanes of Old Delhi market which is not usually visited by tourists. You will stop at Khari Baoli. See the largest wholesale spice market, in Asia. Delhi sightseeing is going to be a lot of fun. You will get to see a lot of things. The KVT representative will help you with Delhi sightseeing. Make sure you have a good time. We are still exploring and we drive old buildings from the colonial time like Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament House and India Gate. This is a memorial, for the soldiers who fought in the First World War.

We will start the day early and head to New Delhi railway station to catch our train to Chandigarh. When we get to Chandigarh railway station someone will meet us. We will drive to Mandi. This drive will take around five to six hours.

Mandi is a nice place, with the Beas River flowing through it. People also call Mandi the "Kashi of the hills" because it has a lot of temples.

It is an idea to get to Mandi a day before so our bodies can get used to the new place.

We eat breakfast early. Then we check our bikes to make sure everything is okay. The tour leader talks to us after that. We ride our bikes around the town for a while so we can get used to them. Then we start riding to Larji. We follow the Beas river as we ride through the parts of Kullu Valley. The mountains, around us are really steep. We ride along the curves of the mountains. Climb some really steep parts. We see a lot of terraced fields and the famous Kullu orchards as we ride. They get more and more noticeable. We turn off the Kullu Valley road when we get to Larji. Larji is a village and it is a great place, for trout fishing. When we arrive at Larji we go to the hotel.

Today is a day for cycling. We start from Larji. Slowly go up riding near the Great Himalayan National Park. The Great Himalayan National Park is home to bears, leopards, wild cats and it is surrounded by a lot of trees like pine, oak and horse chestnut. We will go through Banjar, which's a small village. Banjar has shops with wooden fronts and they are, on a narrow street. From Banjar the ride gets really steep as you go to Shoja. Shoja is a village that is 2,600 meters above sea level. It is like a picture postcard. The village is on a mountain. You can see the whole valley, from there. There are apple trees everywhere. You can take long walks in the woods. You can also see the Pir Panjal range from away.

The distance you have to cycle is 27 kilometers. You will get breakfast and dinner.

We are having another day of pedaling as we ride toward the Jalori Pass. The Jalori Pass is 3223 meters high. We start with a climb. Then the climb becomes really steep at the end.

We start cycling through forests that have fir and spruce or oak trees. As we go higher the trees change to birch and rhododendron trees. These trees get smaller as we get closer, to the top of the mountain.

The Jalori Pass is special because it is the line that divides the Inner Saraj and the Outer Saraj. From the Jalori Pass we can see the Pir Pinjal and the Tibetan peaks clearly. From here the Sutlej river trip is really fun it is a downhill ride we go through Ani. We reach the gorge of the great Sutlej river. When we get to Luhri we go to the hotel.

We have our breakfast. Then we start cycling uphill out of the Sutlej valley. The Sutlej valley is really something to see. We cycle on a road that goes up and up. The views of the mountain peaks are amazing. We ride our bikes through the Kotgarh Valley. The Kotgarh Valley is famous for growing apples that people all, over the world love to eat. When we get to Narkanda we will go to our hotel. Check in. Narkanda is a place to go skiing. It is surrounded by the Shiwalik range of mountains.

Today is the day we go cycling. We start from Narkanda. Take the main road that goes around the hills. We pass through the few villages and a pine forest. The Sutlej Valley is really deep. We can see snow on the top of the mountains all along the way. We go over a hill that is 2450 meters high and then go down to Shimla. Most of the road is flat. Goes up and down a little bit. When we get to Shimla we will go to the hotel. Check in. Our cycling trip comes to an end. The rest of the day is all yours to do what you want. You can explore the colonial town on your own. Shimla is famous, for its buildings that were built in the Victorian style. You can see this style in the areas of the Mall and The Ridge. The distance we cycled today was 50 kilometers. We had breakfast together.

In the morning we will go to Kalka railway station to catch our evening train to Delhi. When we arrive at the New Delhi railway station someone will be there to help us. After that Delhi hotel staff will take us to our hotel. We will have Breakfast at the hotel.
